Drag Cars - Bracket Points Series Event #1: 09/25/2010

Draft Wheels Racing got its first taste of track by entering into the Drag Car Bracket Point Series. This is a weekly series, with racing every Saturday night for 5 weeks straight. The races are being held and sponsored by Downforce Hobbies which is located in Mesa, Az on the North East corner of Southern and Val Vista Drive.
Although I only entered with one car, one of the racers (Shawn B.) was kind enough to let me race two of his other cars (001 and 005) in the series that night for the practice which was a blast. I would like to thank Shawn for letting me race two of his cars. The night started off with qualifying, and each car was allowed to make two runs, which they used these times to average together a starting grid for the bracket. Since this was my first racing event my car needed to have a number, I ended up picking 900 for my car number. I qualified in 27th place out of 30 cars. The two cars that I borrowed for the practice were care number 001 and 005, I qualified in 2nd place for car 001, and for car 005 I ended up qualified 13th. The below image shows the how the other cars lined up. Our friends over at Wolfpak Racing entered six cars, and you can see thier results by visiting thier blog by clicking on the Wolfpak Racing name.

In round one, I went up against car number 773, I would show you a picture of us on the starting line but since I was so caught up in the event and I had a brain fart, I forgot to take pictures of my cars. I will have pictures for round two next Saturday night I promise. Anyway, I was able to get the win for round one, which earned me 10 points for the series. Also in round one, I raced the borrowed 001 car which I also got the the win, but lost on round one for the borrowed 005 car, which ironically I lost to the man who let me borrow the car Shawn and his #433 car.

In round two, again sorry no pictures, my #900 Dodge Drag car went up against Sean's #7708 car, unfortunately, the #7708 car took the win and Draft Wheels Racing night was over. I was still in with the borrowed car 001, I went up against car #779, although I won the race, I DQ'd myself by red lighting and leaving the line too early, so the win went to car #779.

Over all I had a blast racing and look forward to racing again next Saturday. Below is an image of the final board, and I'm glad to announce that my friend Dean over at Wolfpak Racing ened up taking the overall win for the night. CONGRATS DEAN!!!

New Car - JK Cheetah 7 - Nascar

I decided for my next car that I would try my hand at racing a nascar style car. I have not had a chance to really test drive this car yet, but wanted to place a picture of the car up on the blog. I will give you an update soon on how the car runs, and any modifications that I may need to make.

I know one of the first things I will do is change the decals, and maybe switch to a different set of tires. I'm not sure about the rear-end gear if I need to swap it out for an upgrade or not, I won;t really know until I have a chance to run the car over several practices. I'll keep you posted on the progress of this car soon, and if I will be running in the points racing for this class.

Kids Racing - Downforce Hobbies

Took my daughter Laura down to Downforce Hobbies for some practice with her new car, and also to run the kids racing they have each week. The car that I purchased for Laura is a JK Cheetah 7 w/Falcon Motor with a AX-Audi R8 body. Here is a picture of her car.

She got in about and hour or so practice on the track and her times and driving improved a lot since the last time she raced. She was getting more comfortable driving as time went on. After the practice runs, we went over car maintenance, and she helped me clean and prepare the car for the kids race that was scheduled for later that day.

When she entered the kids race, their was three other kids entered with her, one of which was Matthew, Dean's son. You can follow them at Wolfpack Racing blog. It was a very close race, and Laura ended up finishing in 3rd place. She was very excited to get the third place plaque, and I was very proud of her in the way she handled herself during the race. With more practice and a few more events she will be definitely be making a run for some first place finishes.

Drag Racing Practice - Downforce Hobbies

Went down to Downforce Hobbies today to get in some more testing and practice time for the Drag Car. The car was again consistent in its times, with none of the runs being that far apart from each other in times.

I plan on entering the point racing which starts on Saturday, September 25th, 2010. With the car running this consistent, I think I will be able to do pretty well against the compition.

Here are the time that I ran today.

New Drag Car Assembled

To start out my slot-racing career, I decided to first start out with the Drag Cars. I purchased a Parma Edge with the 16D Motor pre-assembled, ready to race (Or so I thought, see below). The body I picked up for it was a Pro-Stock look, although I'm not 100% sure, it looks to be a Ford style maybe following and Escort look.

I met my friend Dean down at Downforce Hobbies in Mesa, and he was a great help in getting the car setup and body attached. You can follow dean and his racing family at: Wolfpack Racing. Before we could attach the body, we had to swap out the rear-end for a smaller axle for it was originally setup for a different body style. Lucky for me, Dean had an extra rear axle handy that he let me use. We got it switched out pretty quick, thanks to Dean. After a few modification to the chassis and cutting/trimming the body down to fit, we had the car race ready in no time. I learned alot with Dean's help and hope to be able to put that to the test with my next car which will be one of the Flexi cars.

After some great pointers from Dean, I was ready to take some practice runs. The car turned out be great I ran 6 times in each lane to get a good feel for how the car was going to run. The car turned out to be more consistent then I thought at first and ran the following times:

I'm going to try to get in some more practice runs between now and Saturday. The plan is to enter the bracket racing Saturday night which will be Draft Wheels Racing debut to the slot car racing world.
